Technology in the future
Hi ladies. Welcome to your first blog post. Please refer to the first post in the blog about procedures before proceeding.
Positive: Computers in 5 years.
Negative: Social Media Ripping Society Apart
According to the videos above that we watched in class, computers affect our lives in many ways. The first described positive ways technology will improve our lives. The second is kinda scary.
For our blog post I want you to reflect on this question. Based on your experience give your opinion on what you think are the long-term effects of living in a technological world? Are these mostly negative or positive?
Please write a short paragraph 5-6 sentences, describing which side you lean toward. Please include a little of your own experience and how you think technology will help or hurt you in the future.

Based on the question above I think its mostly positive, but it can also be negative.
ReplyDeleteI leaned on the positive side because in the future I see myself becoming an designer, engineer that build and design houses. Therefore my point of view on computers in the future is going to be very helpful to me, I would not like to have nothing to do with the negative point of view of computers in the future. I will always use the computer in a helpful way, not a hurtful way in the future.
After watching both videos, I believe that a long term effect of living in a technological world is that misinformation spreads faster than ever, which is a huge problem in today’s world considering how big of a topic it is of late. This fact along with many others leans me toward the side of advances in technology being a bad thing. Besides the quick spreading of misinformation, people get lazier by the day because of advances in technology. We think technology can solve all of our problems. One last reason I lean more to the negative side is that people are always getting injured because of technology. Further advancements can lead to further injuries. People already get hit by cars and walk into doors and walls because they refuse to look up from their phone screens. Less advancements can lead to less injuries. A personal experience of mine that is a negative affect of technology is that sometimes my technology keeps me awake at night because I can't resist the temptation of looking at my phone. Not only is that not healthy, it worsens my vision. Although there are many bad things about advancements in technology, there is one good thing. An advancement in medication and cancer treatment would be great for our future, and technology is the key to it.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I do believe technology is benefiting and ruining the world. This opinion isn’t based off the fact that I don’t have social media , it is based off of what is going on around the globe. I understand that many people use technology for many helpful reasons, and in the future it will be used to help cure diseases and to see signs of pre-cancerous tumors, which is a wonderful thing. Yet, social media is one of the negative sides of technology. Many people hid behind a screen to say the most cruel things they can think, bringing down others self-esteem. Did you know that in 2016, suicide was the 10th highest cause of death in american, with 45,000 people taking their own lives? One of the main causes of adolescence suicide is cyberbullying. With technology, you can’t stop it. Not every single person will like your photo or like you, so they say whatever they want to without thinking twice. Many people have fell into depression and have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder because of this. It is a terrible trend that is happening every day, and t needs to be put to and end. With this being said, I lean towards the side that believes social media is ripping society apart.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the videos showing both negative and positive points on technology in the future I have come to the conclusion that technology will benefit us in the long run.In the future I plan to join the medical field and having technology that can help us to identify diseases beforehand can really help to improve the lives of many people. Unfortunately even though I do agree with technology being a great help it still might cause more harm. For example: at a young age most children already have an electronic device that they are hooked to and when the grow up this can affect their health for the worst. Too much technology can damage their eyesight and it can hinder them from getting proper exercise since they would be hooked to it all day. So to sum it up I believe that yes too much technology is not a good thing but in the long run it can very beneficial in facing future problems.
ReplyDeleteLiving in a technology filled world could be dangerous. Computers could scan our every move. Hackers may be able to get all our secret information. Also, technology affects us from going into the world and experiencing life. When we are on our phones we are not recognizing the world around us. If we are on our phone, it is likely to get robbed because you are not paying attention.
ReplyDeleteRuby W - Why Social Media Is Tearing Apart Society:
ReplyDeleteTechnology affects people's lives in many different ways either positively or negatively or sometimes both. Or sometimes both. After watching the videos showing both negative and positive points of views on technology in the future. I have come to a consensus that social media and other
technological devices will cause harm and will not benefit humans in the long run. For example a lot
of kids get social media when they're only little kids which could affect their mental and emotional
well - being. Another example usually a lot of teenagers have social media and its a way to communicate with friends, take selfies and get more followers this this motive is a viscous never ending cycle, which could lead to becoming lazy and not interacting with those around you or the people in your life. Not getting any exercise which will make you eventually unhealthy, this can lead to depression because soon social media is the only thing you are on and listen to which is not good since the media is rarely true. We think that technology is the hero and will save us while in reality it separates us from each other. In my experiences whenever I go on the train to school I see adults and kids all looking at their phones either playing games, texting and or on social media. Nobody is talking or helping each other, and when I see a person look up from their phone I am relieved until they look at their phone again after five seconds. I have also witnessed people
almost get hit by a car because their texting while walking on the street, drivers also text while
driving. Personal I also have a problem of looking at my phone at night watching youtube or
texting my friends until midnight which is unhealthy because of the lack of sleep then I am
tired the next morning. While technology is overall is getting worse, there are some good things that came out of the use of technology. For instance the advancement in technology have skyrocketed and helped doctors, surgeon, nurses and other people in the medical field, identify diseases like cancer faster, to prevent further harm to individuals and improve both the health and lives of a lot
of people.
Both videos presented make very compelling points. However, I am slightly leaning towards how technology is negative. I believe this because although technology has many benefits such as, spreading news, connecting people and developing cures, technology leaves many obsessed with their electronic device, killing brain cells. While the benefits have been life changing to society, the cons are outweighing the pros, having taken over and brain washed most of societies minds. If you go around asking people how many hours they’re on their phones a day, the answers would shock you. The sad part is these sad amount of answers would probably turn out to be the nations average. I myself, struggle with putting the phone down at night, but I continue to try to limit myself.
ReplyDeleteFrom watching the videos I learned that there are both large benefits as well as disadvantages and dangers coming with the development of technology. In the future, we can expect computers to be capable of detecting smell, taste, hearing, sight, and texture. Even now, our modern technology detects storms and helps people evacuate through sending alerts. Some negative outcomes of developing technology are risks when using social media. Social media or any apps you download can be used as a tracking device, and by associating with social media, you are exposing yourself to the world which can be risky. You can encounter predators, scammers, and much more. Although technology brings a lot of advantages, you have to always be aware of the dangers.
ReplyDeleteBased on my my experience, I think there are several long-term effects of living in a technological world. One example of a long-term effect is the effect of gaining knowledge. Learning new information is at the tip of our fingertips. Literally. There are millions of sources from YouTube videos to online articles that can educate about any topic anywhere. This is a long term effect because this can expand our knowledge and genuinely make us smarter. Another example is of a long term effect is the effect that technology has on our rest. Because we have access to all things any and everywhere this could be used to our advantage or disadvantage. Often children, teens and adults stay up late binge watching Netflix or refreshing their Instagram timeline opposed to receiving 7 hours of sleep. Then, once children, teens and adults wake up the first thing looked at in the morning are phones, tablets and other devices. This effects us because throughout the day we are now tired and we may not reach the potential to complete our work which can result in getting fired or failing. To the question are these effects mostly negative or positive? I would answer a bit of both. It is up to the user; if the user abuses their technology or if the user uses their technology to their benefit. In my own experience, I typically to switch from one device to another throughout the night. For instance, for my phone to charge for the upcoming school day I will switch over to my IPad and watch Bob’s Burgers instead of going to sleep. This has caused me many mornings where I am restless and grouchy which effects my overall day and work. However, I have used technology for my benefit as well. Unlike olden times where if you needed a question to be answered you had to rush to the library, I simply google the question on my phone. In the future, I am worried technology will evolve but not to our benefit. Similar to now, I think technology and robots specifically will replace jobs regularly done by humans. This is worrying because by the time I reach adulthood, I don’t know how far technology would have advanced. Who knows maybe one day a teacher will be replaced with a robot?
ReplyDeleteBased on both videos, I believe that the long term effects of technology are mostly negative. This is because technology tends to distract us from completing tasks or focusing on everyday things. Yes, technology can be used for informational purposes, but most people use it for entertainment (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) People tend to rely on technology for everything, things as simple as turning on the lights. This can disconnect us from the real world. Also many things can be misconstrued with technology. I’m sure we’ve all heard “Don’t believe everything you see on the internet,” and it’s true. Many sites can give false information and cause confusion. Technology also opens the door for cyberbullying, a common issue amongst teens and even adults. It’s easy to hide behind a computer screen and say mean things, but it’s not the same in person.
ReplyDeleteIn the first video: It states that in a few years computers would not only be able to look at pictures but understand them. I feel as of though it means that our current understanding of technology will change a develop massively. Technology could help us positively in the future because it could further development/research production massively. It could soon be able to help diagnose skin diseases from just a scanning. Such as skin cancer, which would help greatly considering if the computer catches the skin cancer at an early age, there is a possibility that doctors could find a way to stop it from progressing any further. I think this would be a great advantage in society and could help save many lives.
ReplyDeleteIn the second video: Facebook’s Executive is describing how much social media is destroying our world. He had given an example about a kidnapping in India and how there had been false accusations of who took part in the kidnapping. In this miscommunication people were murdered from the false accusations/manipulations which had been brought out by social media. He had listed other examples on how technology and social media have affected us greatly in a negative way. His description had changed my view on the way I now see social media and technology’s development. I believe technology will affect us both positively and negatively, yet there has to be some limitations as to how seriously we will take all the information given to us from the internet.
The first video states the many positives of technology. It can help with detecting forms of caner that hard to find in it's early stages. It can also can guide personnel in an emergency. Technology can be very useful for things like news, emergency alerts, and medicine but I fell like technology and social media will eventually ruin society. People are becoming obsessed with social media, which can lead to stress and depression. Some will do whatever it takes for a certain amount of like or followers. I believe the bad effects outweigh the good ones. In the second video, he gives an example of the bad effects of a fake news incident in India. I think that technology has some good things about it but so many more bad things.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching both of the videos about technology, I am leaning toward siding with the first video. Even though the second video does bring up valid points about how technology can be bad for us; the first video also brings up valid points too. Technology can help us a lot with emergencies and help us find things faster. Such as helping our emergencies vehicles can find the fastest route to places and finding early predictors for cancer or other fatal diseases. And the more advanced it gets, the more helpful it can be to our lives. Technology helps me a lot in my everyday life, like what the weather is, if there is traffic, etc. that is why I think the more advanced it gets, the better it will be for us.
ReplyDeleteThe first of the two videos lists many positives of technology. The advancements have allowed technology to provide some types of medical aid, guidance through emergency situations, and can even alert people of emergencies. While there are positives, personally I believe that the negatives of technology outweigh the positive ones. With advancements of technology comes robots, robots that can do jobs much more efficiently than human workers, which can leave many jobless and ruin their lives. As well as the issues with things such as social media, where it's become apparent that being popular or trending is the most important thing, that popularity is worth risking your lives and the lives of others. With everyone having technology, lies and fake things can spread so much quicker, which can hurt people mentally and emotionally, or lead people to completely misunderstand. The second video touches on that, the man giving the example of bad effects a fake news scandal had in India. Thus, I believe that while technology has positives, the negatives tend to cover those up.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the videos, I believe long-term effects of technology could be positive or negative. Technology helps important information get around faster so it is very beneficial. Technology also helps people communicate from different parts of the world which could be very useful. On the other hand, technology is also negative in my opinion because it does everything for us so we never have to take any responsibilities or try to accomplish something. It is also a negative effect because technology will never be private so someone's private information could get out to anyone, which can cause cyber bullying, another negative long-term effect.
