The Internet is Beautiful

The idea for the Internet was born from the launch of the Russian Sputnik satellite in 1957. The US government was worried that the then Soviet Union possessed superior technology capability and could potentially strike the US with a nuclear missile. So it began to prepare for the consequence. The Internet essentially began as way to communicate if part of the country was destroyed.

In 1969 the technology was advanced enough to begin testing it at universities and the first successful test was completed between the UCLA and Stamford campuses in California.

It wasn't until around 1991 that the Internet was introduced for individual and commercial purposes.

Today we see more an more users clustered around the same sites. Facebook, Google, Apple and Amazon collectively consume most of our attention and that's sad because there is so much more to it.

For this post I want you to visit this site: https://www.reddit.com/r/InternetIsBeautiful/ and as part of Digital Literacy find a website that you think would help you learn in one of your classes. Explore the website for a while and write a brief description of how you think it will benefit you and your classmates.

Example: I found a map that might help me learn Geography and Social Studies. https://worldmap.harvard.edu/maps/5565. This map helps me identify ancient civilizations  in a more precise way than the maps in our book. You can also overlay other options on the map by checking the boxes on the left hand sidebar.

  1. A website I had found that may be useful for trying to get a sense of when certain things happened is the Timeline of Earth because it presents a fun yet understandable approach to a timeline. This may help you in Global/Social Studies to understand when certain objects came to be.

  2. I found a website that might help me with Biology. http://timelineofearth.com/
This website provides a timeline of the Earth that shows what happened in the time between the forming of the Earth 4.6 billion years ago to today (this is just shown as the beginning of the human race.) The timeline includes how many years ago creatures appeared on the Earth and even when the dinosaurs went extinct. To use the website you scroll up and down through the specific time periods, it also allows you to skip the first 4 billion years of Earth.

  3. A website that would help me learn in one of my classes is the website, http://timelineofearth.com/.
This is a website that goes through the earth's timeline such as telling when the the earth was formed, when the anthrpod evolved, etc. This website gives the dates as well as shows a small doodle of what evolved. I think this website will benefit both me and my classmates in biology class. Currently, we are learning about the different eras (Mesozoic, Cenozoic, etc.) Although this website does not give a lengthy description, it does briefly help to promote accurate years.

  4. I found a website that helped me learn about the timeline of Earth. This website is very useful because it shows me the exact amount of years ago certain things started. For example, forests, first tetrapods, crabs, amphibians, etc. This wesbite can help me in either my global or science classes. Even though this website is about Earth, it also talks about the geography of the timeline of Earth, which falls into my global classes. The website I used for this blog is timelineofearth.com

  5. A website that can help me in French is https://localingual.com/?ISO=US&Region=USA-3559. It is not only a map of countries, but it can record and let you listen to accents from the countries. This would not only help me in French. It would help me with geography. It would also help other people in Spanish.

  6. I found a 3d model of a Virus that can help me and other students understand and visualize bacteria better(Science).https://www.hhmi.org/biointeractive/virus-explorer. This 3d model of a map shows us what a bacteria would look like without using a microscope. You are able to turn, rotate and see inside the virus. It also tells the history and has many different bacterias to choose from. It helps have a hands(digital) on experience with working with bacteria.

  7. I found a website that would help me learn more about the Earth. http://timelineofearth.com/. This map helps me see the different things that happened in the past years on earth. For example it tells me when Earth freeze (2.30 B yrs ago) etc. You can copy and paste the link above to see the other things that happened on Earth when we weren't alive.

  8. The website I found, could be very helpful in biology/global history. It told me the history of creatures and when they came to be on a timeline. It was not confusing, so anyone could follow it And they way it was put, was very interesting and fun.

  9. The website I looked at was a timeline of the Earth (http://timelineofearth.com/). This website is useful with learning Earth science. By using this information, you can learn important dates and time periods, such as the time period in which mammals and other creatures started to appear.

This website could help me learn more about a country and its history. It may help me learn more about geography and the population of different states, cities, and countries. This map shows detailed images of countries or states and it lets me know where certain cities are. This website is easy to use ad is a big help to anyone who wants to learn more about geography. In order to figure out this document you have to have a good knowledge of google maps.

  12. I found a website that can help me with both biology and geography. This website locates where certain fossils are around the world. Fossils are one major piece of evidence of evolution and this website can provide more information about them. It identifies what time period they originated from and how many occurences there were. https://paleobiodb.org/navigator/

I found two websites, one of the two websites I found shows visually what the globe looked like
from different dates in time. For example the date is from seven fifty million years ago in the past
to zero million years ago, present time. The global is a three dimensional global that shows how
over time, the world was just water with not yet formed land masses which now we would call
continents. Then three hundred forty million years the land is coming together, still not
developed yet. The other side of the globe is just tons of water. Zero million years in the present
the globe is fully formed in land and water the point where states and countries within the
contents are visible. This might help you in either Science class and or Global History because
the website shows what the globe looked like and what happened over time to the earth itself.
And it shows the timeline that the world went through and what factors had affected it. http://dinosaurpictures.org/ancient-earth#0. Another website I discovered was a visual of three dimensional molecules, which showed different types of drugs. Which could be used in a chemistry course, or for doctors or other workers in the medical field, to look and study what the different drugs looks like in a molecule form. https://web.chemdoodle.com/demos/molgrabber-3d/

  14. In the website I found http://algebrarules.com it helped me learn all of the rules for algebra which is useful because if you don’t know the rules you can’t solve equations, especially real world equations. This can help other students because some kids often mix up the rules of algebra which is very important when taking the class so students may use this website as a reference or study guide so they can always come back to study and memorize which rules are for which topics.

  15. I think this website is helpful for my classes because in case I stumbling onto something I wasn’t supposed to I could be in serious trouble. To prevent this from ever occurring I could learn about viruses and how to avoid them. It gives you information on what can occur and what you can do to prevent viruses from arriving. So this website provided a lot of useful information. I look forward to helping myself and others with the advice/information I gained today.

  16. I found a website called Virus Explorer, where you can see 3D models of viruses, along with their characteristics that you can see through rotating and zooming into the model. I think this website can help me with Biology class. If we are learning about things such as viruses or sicknesses, the visual technology can help us better understand how it works and help us identify it when we need to. https://www.hhmi.org/biointeractive/virus-explorer
