The
great thing about blogs is that they can be about anything and it is a
fresh perspective from outside the mainstream. Do you love to travel?
Start a travel blog and it becomes your unique view on the topic. For
this post I want you to pretend this is your blog. Write a post about a
recent experience you had with something you have a strong opinion
about. It can be negative or positive. Your post should be 6-10
sentences at a minimum. Compare and contrast what you are writing about
with other things similar to your topic. For example: If you are writing
about a record from a particular artist, compare it to similar artists
or the artists earlier work. Same for restaurants, etc. See examples for
ideas. The key is to be passionate.

The movies The Truman Show and American Beauty are two movies I cherish deeply. Both came out in the late 90's. The Truman Show is a movie about a man who is unaware that his entire life has been recorded and broadcasted to billions of adoring fans all over the world. American Beauty is a movie about a man who suddenly becomes bored with his life and is in need of fresh excitement. He suddenly becomes infatuated with his daughter's friend which later is a huge effect on his troubled daughter and worried wife. These movies are different but I still like them. What I like about The Truman Show is the secret horror element the movie carries, from Cristof, the creator and head director of the show eliminating any sense of reality from Truman's life(killing his "dad", separating him from his "lover") to Truman trying to escape his life(the film set). For a couple of days, the movie scared me into thinking everyone around me were actors hired apart of a big production set like Truman. There is nothing I disliked about The Truman Show other than I wished the writers of the movie elaborated more What I like about American Beauty is how complex the movie is as well as the message the movie sends. The husband, Lester, thinks he wants the American Beauty, his daughter's friend who is blonde and pretty however he realizes he wants her solely for her looks(the wrong reason). I disliked the movie's inappropriate relationship of the father liking and pursuing a teenage girl but other than that it is a great movie.
ReplyDeleteThe country of England is one of my favorite places to visit on vacation. I love the environment and I love how much calmer it is compared to Brooklyn. The area is also much cleaner and I just find it so ... fascinating. I may be saying this since I’ve only been there once, but I truly love that pace so much. So this summer, I plan to go back there to escape this normal Brooklyn lifestyle. Compared to England, Brooklyn is mess. Here it is so polluted, noisy, messy, and everywhere you go there are just lots of “tall metal buildings”. While in England, it is calm, quiet, cleaner and is filled with lots of green open pastures with farm animals roaming free and enjoying the fresh air. For example, cows, horses, sheep, etc. The only downside I personally see in England is that the weather is quite odd. It mainly consists of wind, cold and the most popular of them all RAIN. Besides this fault, I believe that England is a great place for not only vacation but maybe even a forever place to live.
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling was one of the best books I have ever read. When I realized that people had turned the book into a movie, I was ecstatic. Yet, when I watched the movie for the first time, I was highly disappointed. I expected so much for the movie, and it was a complete flop (in my opinion) . The words in the book put such a clear, vivid image in my head, and I expected so much more of the movie. The characters did not fit their descriptions, the plot was not fully covered as it was in the book, and the movie did not go even cover the basic things that were explained in the book. If another movie production company would remake the Harry Potter series, I would advise them to make it correctly.
ReplyDeleteI agree that they did not do the movie for Sorcerer's Stone correctly. I have been in love with the Harry Potter series from a young age, since my mother showed me the movies when I was younger, but when I finally read the book I realized how much the movie production company had changed. Such as Harry having blue eyes in the movies but his eyes were green in the book, they didn't include Peves the Poltergeist, or include Charlie Weasley and his friends taking Norbert (The groundskeeper, Hagrid's, illegal pet dragon) back to Romania where he was safe. As for your opinion on the movie being a flop, I do not entirely agree. Yes, it was fairly different, and yes they excluded so much, but it will forever be the first adaptation of one of my all time favorite books.
DeleteMy favorite place to travel to is Tampa, Florida. I go there every summer because I have a house there. It is always so hot and fit for the beach. I love all the palm trees scattered around and the ice cold drinks in my backyard. I also enjoy the pool with my family members who live there. It’s such a different environment compared to New York. Here it’s always busy and loud, but there it’s very calm and almost slow. Florida is like a big open space, while New York is more secluded. Florida is also cleaner, which is important to me. There is always room to relax and I really enjoy that. It’s a great place to go after a long year at school. The only downside is that although it’s known as the “sunshine state,” its also the “lighting state,” so there tends to be rain and thunderstorms in July. Overall though, it is my favorite place to go any chance I get.
ReplyDeleteReplying to Jewels’ comment, I also love traveling to Tampa, Florida. I have been there multiple times with my family. Each time we went, it was very enjoyable. The sun is so strong and the weather is amazing. The beach is my favorite place to go to in the summer. The beaches in Florida are very calming, especially because they are surrounded with tropical palm trees. The ocean water is also so calming and crystal clear. I love how clean the environment is and the people there are so kind. Overall, Florida is an amazing place to travel and it is a special place to spend time at.

ReplyDeleteThis was the ninth time, I was on a plane but instead of the destination being in the United States, going to Minnesota, it was to Amsterdam. This was my first time travelling out of America, it took ten hours, we stopped in Madrid first. Then soon we were in Amsterdam walking through the airport we then took a ferry to the main land. Every where people were biking, there was very few cars on the streets. Everything seemed less crowded and people were so polite, it was very different from America. In that the environment and view of Amsterdam the people living, there seemed more connected to reality and more helpful. It was a new experience and perspective and in all a new adventure it was really exciting, to meet new people and find out how they lived. There was a variety of culture within Amsterdam which was interesting. Overall the whole trip was really nice, and I wish to travel there again as well as other new places.
I chose to reply to Ruby's post because going on a plane for the first time plus not ending up at your destination seems pretty scary but fun at the same time. I said scary because sometimes you can go to a bad place and something can happen to you, or it can be fun because you can go to a fun place with lots of beaches and then you can maybe have the best vacation ever.
DeleteMy favorite place to travel is Lake George. I have been going there for years, almost every summer. The environment is filled with grass and nice houses as well. The weather in Lake George is never too hot or too cold, it is perfect. This environment is very different compared to Brooklyn in many ways. It is much cleaner and more welcoming. The water quality in this environment is excellent and clean. This place is known to have very clean water so people take their daily drinking water directly from the lake. In New York, the bodies of water are filled with trash and pollution, which is unsafe. Another advantage in Lake George is the people. When my family and I visit, the people that live there make us feel like home by greeting us and they are very warm-hearted. The only disadvantage in Lake George is that people have to mainly use transportation to get around because most things are not walking distance. Overall, Lake George is a perfect place to spend time at and a very safe environment.
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorite place to travel would be Québec, Canada. I usually visit there with my family anytime I have a break. When we go to Canada, we visit our families that reside there. I love the environment there, it is very peaceful, the roads are so clean and the people are so friendly. I also enjoy the energy our families have when we are together, it almost feels like we are all meant to be together and share memorable moments with one another. Without spending time with them I feel I wouldn’t have enjoyed and still enjoy my visits to Canada as much as I do now. I’m glad that I have the opportunity to spend and enjoy my vacation time in such an amazing, loving, and caring environment. Canada is an amazing place to go and will always be my favorite place to go on vacation.
ReplyDeleteResponding to Gabby's comment on her travels, I also love going to Quebec. As she said, the environment there is very clean and the people are very welcoming. The people bring southern hospitality up north. Adding to what she said, the food the amazing. Everywhere we went there was a variety of options that were all delicious. Also, every location we went to, people greeted us with a warm smile. Also, there is so much history behind Canada and we learned some fascinating information about how Canada has developed into what it is today. In conclusion, Gabby brought up opinions about Quebec that I share in common with her.
DeleteI am also responding to Gabby's comment on her favorite place to travel which is Quebec, I to really enjoy travelling to Quebec, the people are very nice and the environment is clean and from my experiences cold, since it snowed when I went there. The streets are also peaceful and quiet but not desolate which is nice. I really liked the food there it is different but a change is great sometimes. I wish to go again and maybe go to places, I did not get to go to when I went there last. There is much of Quebec that is a mystery to me I wish to understand the culture and history better, overall Quebec is a great place to travel.
DeleteMy favorite place to travel is Orlando, Florida. I have been there only three times but each time my stay there got better and better. I usually go during the winter to the weather in Orlando is not to hot but not as cold as New York. There are many things to do in Orlando, such as the many amusement parks like Disney World or Universal Studios. I also have family in Orlando so every time we go its like a reunion. The atmosphere in Orlando is great, it is clean and quiet. It has many different food options that range from sea food to soul food. Overall, Orlando is my favorite place too travel
ReplyDeleteI agree, the atmosphere in Orlando is great! I also went to Universal and Disney World and it was so much fun. Unfortunately I went in the summer so the weather was very hot and humid, but overall Orlando is a great place to get away from city life and for families.
DeleteResponding to Kaymora's post, I agree with you 1000%... Orlando is an amazing place to visit, especially during the summer when all the pools are open, and all the amusing parks are having discounts. Since my grandparents live not to far from there, we often go to the beach or see the firecrackers on the 4th of July near downtown Orlando. One of my favorite memories would be going to Universal a couple of years ago. It was one of the best times of my life.
DeleteSanibel Island, Florida, is my favorite place to travel. Its waters were crystal clear, a nice change from what we're used to here in New York City. Every store there is a local business which added to the simplicity of this island. However, my favorite part was the bike paths. There are these bike paths that go through the whole island that are surrounded by beautiful oceans, forests, etc. On these paths, you also hear the many sounds of wildlife, something you can't here nearly as well as you could in the city. Sanibel is overall a great place to vacation and I recommend this destination for your next trip.
ReplyDeleteI think it is nice to get away and experience new things. Vacation is always fun. Biking has always been an interest of mine except I don’t really like biking in the street because of how many accidents seem to happen with bikes and cars or bikes and pedestrians. I hope I go there someday because I personally would to bike on those paths and I would really enjoy the oceans because I love the water and swimming.The way you described this place makes it sound amazing, so soothing, calm and tranquil.
DeleteOne of my favorite places to travel is Sharon, Connecticut. It's a small town basically on the border between Connecticut and New York, the population being only around 2700, but I love it nonetheless. My grandmother grew up and owns a house on the outskirts of town so for certain holidays and for most of summer break we go there. In the more urban parts of town, everyone knows everyone and its a very welcoming environment. There's plenty of trails to hike all over the mountains surrounding this lovely town, plenty of nature around to admire for the naturalist in you, and rich history to learn about in the historical society. Sharon is a great place for vacation and I sincerely recommend it for your next trip.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place is my home state of New York. New York is different in areas like buildings, architecture, and food compared to other states. The buildings in New York are much taller, and there are many more iconic sites and architectural monuments in New York. For example, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty. Food-wise, one thing I noticed that was different was pizza. The pizza in New York is much more flavorful than in any of the other states. There are also more tourism opportunities in New York. Overall, I recommend New York as a great place to live and as a great vacation site.
ReplyDeleteThe city that never sleeps! I agree with Allie, New York is my favorite place. New Yorkers are hilarious and we are known for our notorious slang. I may add that New York has also produced some of the greatest musicians in history. Like Allie mentioned, New York has the best pizza ever! There is so much to do in New York City that you will never be bored! The people, the food, the attractions can overall be addicting.
DeleteNew York is a very unique place to visit and live. It is incredibly expensive to live her but the tourist attractions are beautiful. Times Square is a very amazing place with all of the shops, shows, and restaurants. All of the people can get a little overwhelming but it's very beautiful place to visit. It is also incredibly beautiful in the winter. I agree that the food here is exquisite. Especially brick oven pizza. There are many great pizza places but not all places are good. I went to John's pizzeria, a very famous pizza place. I did not like their pizza because it was very bland. I also agree that New York has many attractions that are beautiful. You can go on a city bus tour and see the many things New York is famous for. For example, New York has many famous people buried here, like Alexander Hamilton. It's also famous for its parks. For example, Central Park and Prospect Park are very large and incredibly famous.

It is always busy, there is never a day where you’ll have nothing to do. The view of the city, the immense amount of attractions, and great food makes it the place to be. Like Allie said, the pizza is the best ! I have some issues with it though, some areas are very unclean which is alarming, as well as the vast amount of money it requires to live here. Overall though, I would suggest you visit New York, it is a breathtaking and amazing place.
DeleteMy favorite place to travel Boca Raton in Florida, because I love it, its so much fun especially in the summer. My first time there was last summer I spent most of my time in the pool and going out to try different restaurants, the Blue because they were very organized and very decorative, the foods are were greattttttttttt! It was also very hot so like most of the time I was in the pool with my sister and nephew, I was teaching them how to swim even though I can't but I could at the same time. Also I went to visit my friend and we had a sleepover, and then we went shopping. so I would like to go back.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place to travel in the summer is Boca Rotan as well. I go there with my family in August to try new foods and spend time at this beautiful beach called South Beach Park. My favorite thing about Boca Rotan is that its more laid back and cleaner than New York City. When I visit, I get to escpae the city's pollution, over population, and tall buildings. Boca Rotan is a place that allows me to relax and unwind without having the loud background noise of the city in my presence.
DeleteTwo of my favorite movies are Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and The Boxtrolls. Both are extremely different but incredibly good movies. Harry Potter is more of an adventure movie while. However, I was disappointed in the outcome of the movie. The book and movie are two different things. Not that the movie was bad, but the book was far different and there is much more happening in the book. The other movie is The Boxtrolls. The Boxtrolls is animated and it’s a kids film. I did not like that movie because of the story behind it. It is a very dark film for a kids movie. However, its animations are amazing and I loved the work put into it.

I also agree that the book was very different from the movie and that much more happened in the book.I am also upset that in the movie they did not include Peeves the Poltergeist or the scene where Charlie's friends take Norbert the dragon to Romania. Now for your opinion on Boxtrolls. I do agree that for a kids film it was dark, but maybe some evidence supporting this would be nice. For example, some of the trolls tried to kill the main character because he was not a troll. It's animations were great as you stated, and you can tell the animators put a lot of hard work into it. Overall this review was good, but next time, give more evidence to support your claims. :)
DeleteMy favorite place to be is Dominican Republic. Whenever I visit in the summer, I go to a resort on the beach where the water is beautiful and blue, and the environment is relaxing. I enjoy it because its an escape from New York City which is overpopulated, rushed, and polluted. There are cars and trucks everywhere as well as trash lying on the sidewalks attracting insects and rodents. Going to the Dominican Republic lets me escape from that overwhelming, everyday environment, with calm waves and warm weather. My favorite thing about the DR are the palm trees because they remind me of a tropical environment.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Dominican Republic is also one of my favorite places to visit in the summer. Just like Isabella I love the environment and the weather there. It has wonderful resorts and is always sunny which is one of the best climates to me. Dominican Republic is also a great place for a summer vacation and can relieve the stresses of the past school year and the school year to come. To sum up I think Dominican Republic is a great place to visit not only in the summer but anytime of the year and it also help relax and give people a great state of mind.
DeleteI agree, when I was on a cruise the boat spent two days at the Dominican Republic. It was beautiful. I went to a gorgeous beach with white sand and blue water. I also went to Ocean World that had sea animals, my family and I went swimming with the dolphins. I didn't spend that much time there, and I wish I did.

However, when the movie came out I was very disappointed, it did not follow the book at all. If I didn't read the book, the movie would have been fine, but since I did, the movie did not live up to my expectations at all. The movie didn't follow the plot points of the book at all. In the movie, they made a whole different ending and made the main character fall in love with another character than in the book.

ReplyDeleteI recently saw two movies. One was Split (2017) and the other one was glass (2018). Glass is kind of a spin off of split with the same character but the storyline is very different. I originally watched split so I could know the background information before I watched Glass. Split was a very well put together film and it was dramatic, action filled, surprising. I experienced all emotions while watching a and hour and a half film. I automatically assumed that Glass was going to be even better because it was a joined film that had three seperate movies that they combined together. I was wrong! It was action filled but it was boring and I wasn’t interested it in, I was actually bored while watching it. I love movies. I don’t think I have ever watched a movie I have really disliked. I feel like this movie lacked more information and sometimes the storyline was a bit unedited as if it should’ve been reread. So I was disappointed because I thought it would be the movie of the year but it turns out the first movie was better which seems to be the case for many sequels of movies now a days.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Trinity's opinion. Split is an awesome movie with a great plot and characters. And when i saw that there was a sequel coming out, Glass, i was ecstatic. However when i did go out and see the movie, Trinity was right. The movie was filled with action, but not much after that. The plot was okay, but the movie Glass doesn't even compare to Split at all.She was also right about how sequels really don't compare to the original.
